Virtually the entire range of architectural aluminium systems from Kawneer will feature on the £20 million grandstand at Epsom racecourse, the home of the world-famous Derby.

The manufacturer has won the contract through main contractor Willmott Dixon Construction and work with Kawneer-approved installer Leay is expected to start later this year.

Kawneer systems include the AA®100 dry-jointed curtain walling and 451PT ground-floor thermal framing systems, the AA®601 series of integrated casement windows, and 902 patio and the 350 high-traffic series of doors.

Kawneer systems were specified by Limbrick Limited Architects for the second stage of the racecourse redevelopment, which involves the demolition of the old grandstand and administration offices and construction of a major new grandstand.

The new grandstand contains a 1,000m² betting, conference and exhibition facility on the ground floor with direct access to bars and catering facilities and links to the external spectator steps overlooking the course.

Major conference and banqueting facilities and race day restaurants are located on the first floor with excellent views and access to external terraces. Corporate boxes and a ‘super box restaurant’ are provided on the second floor - all with superb views over the course.
