Currently there are three methods for designing blast enhanced products.  There are :-

  • Compliance with Defence Works Functional Standard, Design and Maintenance Guide G2 – Glazing standards for MOD buildings subject to terrorist threat
  • Simplified design where threat is agreed
  • Dynamic Assessment where blast properties are given

The Kawneer blast enhanced curtain wall system has been range tested to ensure its performance.  It is designed as a stick-frame assembly with weather performance achieved by drainage and ventilation of the glazing rebates.

The system features zone drainage as a design principle where each glazed panel is self-drained.  Drainage and ventilation is achieved via protected slots in the pressure plate.

The system is available in a variety of mullion depths.  When combined with the thermal break options and aesthetic external capping provides flexibility of design, outstanding performance and ease of installation to suite individual project requirements.

Product Features:

  • Concealed zone drainage – each pane acts as an individual self draining unit
  • Glazing up to 36mm as standard
  • Range of mullion, transom and face cap options with 85mm sightlines

Performance

The system, installed and glazed to Kawneer recommended procedures, has been range tested at an independent testing facility and achieved break safe classification.

We understand the sensitive nature of blast enhanced projects.  As a result our special projects team are available to advise and support you to ensure the best solution for your demanding project needs.
